About Me

Hi. My name's Thomas Power, but most call me Tom. I'm an amateur photographer. I'm currently a student, and when I have the free time, enjoy spending time with my DSLR. I'm still very much a "beginner" with the camera, but am making steady progress. My interest in photography "developed" - ...Ahem. Excuse the pun. - after a trip to a photographer's studio when the parents wanted professional shots of my brother and I with our new guitars.

I remember looking around at all the equipment and thinking "I could WELL do this for a job. Doesn't look that hard." And after we collected the prints, and my dad handed over what seemed like an extortionate amount of cash - the idea was cemented into my head. It was mainly the price of digital cameras (at the time) that was the limiting factor for my failure to start shooting, but studies and growing up got in the way too...

So, until recently, I had forgot about my, err... - can you call it a "dream"? - but the idea was refreshed as I was looking for possible presents for my 18th birthday. My parents bought me a entry level DSLR, and I've been using it since late 2008. Since then, my lens collection's grown, and I'd like to think my talent has too; but I'll let you be the judge of that...

I haven't really developed a style yet, but would love to get into portraiture, as I'd be able to utilise my knowledge of image editing programs too. Besides the lack of studio equipment, the only real factor stopping me doing this is experience - but they say practice makes perfect. So, don't be surprised if you see a lot of portraits of the same people over and over - I'm on my way to perfection! ;)
